Homemade Taco Seasoning for the Best Tacos and Soups
This homemade taco seasoning is a staple in my kitchen. I mix up a decent batch and keep it in a small air tight glass jar so I don’t have to buy store-bought blends (which usually sneak in ify ingredients like sugar, starch, or preservatives).
This version is bold, salty, and smoky perfect for ground beef, chicken, roasted veggies, or anything that needs a little punch.
Once you start making your own homemade spice blend, you'll probably never go back. Just buy bulk seasonings, and experiment at home.
I was a fan of Siete's taco seasoning blend for the longest, but they've changed their ingredients since the big acquisition.

So What’s in Taco Seasoning?
Everyone has their own version, some prefer chili powder others prefer oregano. The best part about a homemade spice blend is you get to add the spices and flavors you love the most.
- Red chile powder – The base for that classic taco flavor.
- Salt – To bring everything together. I love a good mineral or sea salt.
- Ground roasted cumin – For warmth and depth.
- Organic tomato powder – To bring everything together.
- Garlic powder – Adds sharp flavor.
- Onion powder – Balances the garlic and makes it more savory.
- Cracked black pepper – Just enough for a kick.
- Optional: Organic date powder – Inspired by Siete's taco seasoning, organic dates give it a bit of sweetness.
- Dried parsley
You can adjust the salt and heat to fit your taste.
Spice Swaps
- If you love spicy blends add crushed red pepper flakes for extra heat.
- Not a fan of tomato powder in your taco seasoning, swap it for Mexican oregano.
If you’ve tried this homemade taco seasoning, leave a review. I love reading your comments and try to get back to everyone.
