Prep The Ingredients
- Make these air fryer tortilla chips or make this with thick store-bought tortilla chips.Shred the Oaxaca cheese or any melty cheese.Drain the canned black beans.Finely slice the jalapeños with a mandolin or by hand. If you prefer a pickled jalapeño, try this pickled onions and jalapeños recipe.Reheat the leftover birria or use recently cooked birria and shred the beef. I love to pull and shred the beef with two forks. It’s super easy to do.
Step-by-Step Instructions for Birria Nachos
- Step OneI love to use a cast iron skillet for the crispiest and melty cheese nachos. Line the skillet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.Start with a layer of tortilla chipsThen add the shredded cheeseThen layer on the drained black beansSet the cast iron skillet in the oven and set on broil on the lowest setting. Once the cheese melts and turns a golden brown, remove it from the oven.
- Step TwoOnce the cheese is melted and a light golden brown, top the nachos with shredded birria meat, the jalapeños, dollops of sour cream, and fresh cilantro.I love to dip the nachos in the birria consomé, but if you’re serving a group, pour some of the birria sauce on the nachos immediately before serving.
