  • ¾ cup old-fashioned oats
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup brown sugar packed
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter cold and cubed

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9x9-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, toss apples with granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and lemon juice if using. Spread apples evenly in the baking dish.
  3. In another bowl, mix oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Add cold butter and blend until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Sprinkle the topping over the apples.
  5. Bake for 35-40 minutes, until apples are tender and topping is golden.
  6. Cool slightly and serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream, if desired.
